Flockhart said the following:

Don't jump to conclusions :)
At first glance it seems the evil shark creatures are attacking the innocent young girls but... These beautiful little innocents are Sirens who lure sailors to their watery death. The mermen are saving seafarers from the allure of these devious beauties.
Good and Evil is not so clear cut as we might wish.

Tools.... Wacom Intuos, Photoshop, Tea.

comments welcome :)

Nope, I don't see how this is requiring a mature tag...There are worse things on TV, in the paper & on the cinema. However, If I have something that shows the human form, then I will put a mature rag on it, saving the puritans the effort! I admire your work. It is colourful, alive & yet the subject is so dark. It shows that death is everywhere

I love this, people always think women to be lovely and kind, while men are to be cruel, yet this show it is not so! its an amazing piece of work!

Yet predictably it is the evil, female seductress who is the bad one and the strong, defensive male that is the good one...

You are so right and its a sad stereotypical cliche. :D History seems littered with examples of women being blamed to salve men's conciseness and stroke their egos. We should blame the weak willed sailors not the poor Sirens.
I will try not to perpetuate such myths again :D GO SIRENS !

This is wonderful.
But this can also be viewed as a need for love.
I was reading this book about a Siren, and it told it from her perspective, and that she was only looking for love, along with her sisters. And being hybrids, those men that got stranded on the islands thought of them as evil creatures.
So I don't know. There are many ways to view this.
But it is a beautiful piece. And you have done a wonderful job.
And I love the technique you used, it actually looks like they're in water, unlike some pictures where it looks like someone is just floating in midair.
It's kind of indiscreet, but then again you get the idea of what's going on.

I agree there are many ways to view this and all aspects of good n evil :) Thinking about what you read, I will now have to give some more thought to my idea that sirens are evil after all :D thanks for thoughtful comment

Of course. I am happy to have made someone ponder.
And the book was Sirena by Donna Jo Napoli, in case you're interested.

Cliches are probably more appealing because they are "easy to get"
There are some excellent pieces though, and I was delighted just to get to the semi's :) Whether you judge on originality or artistic ability it usually comes down to what "floats your boat" . Fork and spoon brought a smile to my face the instant I saw it :D Thanks for taking the time to comment. Cheers!

Wow, the painting's meaning is so interesting! You're so very right, the mind is always hasty to jump to conclusions... and so vulnerable to fall into mistake!

Great concept, and awesome way to represent it. Good luck!
